As seen on Facebook. #MakeDeltaStateGreatAgain
Proudly Asaba Dear friend. Do you know that in those years when this project of city bus was about to be initiated by the Delta State government, I was a diploma student at Delta State Polytechnic Ogwashi-Uku. I studied Mass Communication.
After my final exams, I traveled to Benin City in Edo State also I was opportune to visit Ikeja in Lagos State and then finally Kaduna South.
In Edo State, they have this Luxurious buses too that travels around at a very subsidized amount or probably free fare. They were light green in color. I also saw the normal small bus which they used for transportation. I thought to myself that the transportation system in Benin City was the next innovation Delta State and environs would need because of the So called development theory and campaign strategy which was being used. I tried to draft a business plan concerning road transportation in Asaba and environs. I calculated the cost to cancel the commercial tricycle (keke-napep) and initiate the "Nissan Vanette" small buses and also those luxurious buses called "Oshomole bus." Along the line, I calculated the cost to run free transportation in Edo State and also the cost of purchase and maintenance of the free transportation buses. I was amazed to figure the homongous amount of money that is being spent. Then I went into "sage mode" and began calculating the cost of running free transportation completely in the state and also it's GDP if free transportation is sustainable. I discovered it was sustainable. So I insisted that I will introduce this system to the then Okowa administration. I wasn't successful in my endeavor because I was broke and out of cash and connection. So I traveled from Edo State to the North where the billionaires live in order to finance this initiative. I contacted the General Manager of a transportation logistics company called Nezam transportation based in Lagos/Kaduna and other states as well as other neighboring countries. They had contracts with German Automobile companies as at 2015 when I met them. I tried to paint a perfect picture but still I was unsuccessful. So not to talk too much. The cost of running this Delta State City buses is expensive and finally the major challenge that hindered this project is the road network in Asaba and environs. The road network in other places were better so it encouraged such mode of transportation.
Categorically speaking, tricycle (keke-napep) is the best option for a growing State like Delta State. But Warri/Ughelli/Sapele might have the market to run a transportation system like that of Benin City. And finally a capital yes to the fact that the State government of this Bendel State region can actually initiate free transportation for every class of citizens living in the state without denting the pocket of the politicians and State Treasury. Thank you very much and God bless you. #MakeDeltaStateGreatAgain
